Pleached Tree Care

After care / pleached trees.
It is important to secure your trees after planting, stacking is a must in exposed areas. If you have newly pleached (first year pleached) then plant and leave them over the summer, this will give them time to settle.

Watering:
Ensure the trees receive sufficient water for the first season the use of some field drain when planting to ensure water gets to the base of the rootball is advisable

Feeding
If planting in the dormant season then a base scattering of bone meal will help establish root.  A good quality balanced fertiliser can also assist the development of the trees during the growing season.

Clipping:
Once established, it is advisable to trim the branches of the trees in mid to late May and then again in late August this will help thicken the trees.

Eventually, the tree will form a total block and when you get to this stage you can then just trim like you would a hedge (shears or mechanical). Once the trees are very established you should be able to remove the framework
